The Patrol Division is the backbone of the Longview Police Department. Patrol officers provide protection and service to the city of Longview 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Patrol officers work one of three shifts: Days (6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.), Swing (2:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.), or Graveyard (9:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.). Officers sometimes must report to work for court on a scheduled day off. Most officers work holidays such as Fourth of July, Thanksgiving or Christmas.
There is no such thing as a typical day for a patrol officer. They have a wide range of duties and responsibilities -- much more than just making traffic stops!
Patrol officers regularly handle everything from assisting stranded motorists to investigating serious criminal offenses such as domestic violence, assaults, robberies or burglaries. One minute an officer may be driving down the street performing "routine" patrol and the next minute, the officer may be involved in a life or death struggle.
The Patrol Division consists of three sergeants and 35 officers. Captain Deborah Johnson oversees patrol operations.
