Make Longview Beautiful Contest!
Posted Date: 5/29/2014
Cities across America are always competing for tourist dollars, and Longview is no exception. This starts by encouraging and promoting civic involvement and pride in the community. Civic pride is something we all should practice every day – not just when we are asked to. We have an exciting opportunity to show off our civic pride when Longview will once again host the Babe Ruth World Series in August. This event will bring in many visitors to our community. Now is the time to work with local businesses to spruce up the areas that front our city streets!

During the months of June and July 2014, the City of Longview will be promoting “Make Longview Beautiful,” whereby individuals will be encouraged to nominate a business to receive a Mayor’s Award for “Best Curb Appeal Improvement.” A new Facebook page has been created for this event, “Make Longview Beautiful,” where nominations can be posted along with before and after photos. Those visiting the site will be asked to vote for the photo they feel is the most improved. The winner (determined by the most “likes”) will be selected by a Civic Pride Committee, comprised of various community stakeholders.

A company’s curb appeal goes a long way towards winning customers. Curb appeal sends a message to passers-by about quality of work and projects an image to potential customers and local residents, making them inclined to support that business. There is no need to spend a lot of money; a small investment can go a long way. Add a few flowers, pressure wash the sidewalk, pull those pesky weeds or throw on a new coat of paint.
