Tutors needed at the Longview Public Library
We need your help! Project READ, the adult literacy tutoring program at the Longview Public Library, has an immediate need for volunteer tutors. Training is provided. Tutors typically work two hours per week to help other adults in our community improve literacy skills.
You don’t need any special skills or to speak another language. If you are 18 or older, have graduated from high school or earned a GED, and can read this, you are QUALIFIED! We are looking for creative, caring, and patient volunteers willing to give two hours a week to help an adult improve literacy skills and reach life goals.
Project READ matches volunteer tutors with adult learners to work one-on-one in the Longview Library. Sessions are typically twice a week for one hour during regular library hours. The library is open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. If you want to help, we can work with your schedule. Volunteers are asked to make a six-month initial commitment but are welcome to stay longer. We really need tutors who can help between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. for those learners who are working during the day.
The library provides teaching material and resources, direction, tutor training and ongoing support. Training is on the computer and self-paced. You can do it at home or in the Longview Public Library. Please call Elizabeth Partridge at 360-442-5321 for more information.
