Emergency Water Main Replacement Project Update 12-31-2013
Advanced Excavating Specialists (AES) has finished installing the new 12-inch water main along Beech St. between 14th Ave. and the alley between 19th Ave. and 20th Ave. Chlorination and testing is complete as well as tie-ins to the existing water main at 14th Ave. and the alley between 19th Ave. and 20th Ave. Some connections between the new water main along Beech St. and existing water lines in the alleys still need to be completed and will require temporary interruption of services.
AES has also finished installing the new 8-inch waterline in the alley between 16th Ave. and 17th Ave. from Beech St. to Nichols Blvd. The new main and new services to all customers have been installed, tested, and chlorinated. All customers along this alley should be served from the new main by January 11, 2014 after all meters have been switched onto the new service lines. Remaining work including pavement repairs, clean-up, and final restoration is scheduled for completion in March 2014, but is dependent upon weather conditions. Residents in the area may experience temporary water quality impacts as a result of construction.
Local access to the alley will be maintained but may be limited during construction. Driveways will be temporarily blocked as work progresses in the alley but AES will work with residents individually to minimize impacts. Garbage/recycling schedules may be impacted, but AES and the City will coordinate pickup to ensure customers don’t experience any disruption in service. Baltimore St. and Cypress St. will be re-opened by January 11, 2014. To avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.
