Police remind drivers to watch for kids

The summer break for Longview Public Schools students in Washington begins when class lets out Friday, June 23, 2017.

Even though school will be out, Longview Police Department is reminding drivers to proceed with caution because children will be out and about on foot, bikes and skateboards.

Several elementary schools will hold summer school classes from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 10-27. School speed zones will be enforced during those times. Lights will be flashing to alert drivers that the school speed zones are in effect.

Those elementary schools are:

-- CVG at 2644 30th Ave.
-- Kessler at 1902 E. Kessler Blvd.
-- Mint Valley 2745 38th Ave.

Cascade Middle School at 2821 Parkview Drive will hold summer school classes 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 10-27.

In addition to summer school classes, there will be other activities held at various schools.

The following elementary schools will have Longview Parks & Recreation programs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Aug. 4:

-- Olympic at 1324 30th Ave.
-- St. Helens at 431 27th Ave.

Parks & Recreation programs will be at Monticello Middle School at 1225 28th Ave. offered from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through Aug. 4

In addition, free breakfast and lunch programs will be offered at Kessler and Northlake elementary schools through Aug. 18. Northlake is located at 2210 Olympia Way.

Although the school zones will not be in effect at those locations, police are still asking people to drive with caution when children are present.
