Early Childhood Reading Programs at Longview Public Library

Young children are Very Ready Readers at the Longview Public Library. All weekly programs run between January 21 and March 15. Registration is required for all Wednesday – Friday weekly programs. Sign up starting January 14.

Mondays & Tuesdays: 10:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. Fun Hours. Children 5 & younger with an adult are invited to drop in for these unstructured play dates in a learning-rich pre-literacy environment. Board books, foam blocks, sensory play and more! No registration required.
Wednesdays: 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Mother Goose Time. Babies 0-18 months and their grownups join Family Literacy Coordinator Jennifer King for this bouncy, bubbly, book time.
Thursdays: 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Preschool Storytime. Three year olds and up are Very Ready Readers as Youth Services Librarian Jan E.V.W. Hanson shares stories, songs and silliness.
Thursdays: 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Play & Learn. Three - five year olds will enjoy The Very Ready Reader, a research-based curriculum developed by The World of Eric Carle. Longview Public Library is proud to be an early adopter for this program, which will include a snack, sensory and creative activities, trained readers and care-giver handouts. Each week explores the themes: 1. Share Books, 2. Share Sounds, 3. Share Words, 4. Share Rhymes, 5. Share Songs, 6. Share Stories, 7. Share Playtime, and 8. Share Tech.
Fridays: 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Toddler Time. Nursery rhymes and interactive stories encourage emergent literacy for 18 – 35 month olds and their grownups.
Saturdays: January 11, February 8 and March 8, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Fingerplay Camp. 0-3 year olds. Family Literacy Coordinator Jennifer King presents fun ways to make literacy come alive with your little one. Each event stands alone; registration not required!
