Teens & Tweens DIY at Longview Public Library

From A2Z to DIY, students in middle and high school can “Do It Yourself” this winter at the Longview Public Library. All weekly programs run between January 21 and March 15. Programs are free and open to everyone, without any reservations.
Mondays: 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Rainbow Community. Celebrate diversity with middle and high school students from all backgrounds, in a safe, bully-free environment.
Tuesdays: 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Teen Tuesday. Snack, hang with your friends and have fun!
  • January 21: Game Night! Apples 2 Apples, Zombiecide, Jungle Speed and more!
  •  January 28: A2Z Launch. It’s art! It’s tech! It’s a ‘zine! A2Z = Art 2Tech ‘Zine. Learn what a ‘zine is and how your creative work can become part of one.
  •  February 4: First Tuesday Family Film Festival. All ages welcome. Movie to be announced.
  •  February 11: Speed Dating Books. Read one minute from 20 brand new books; then decide who the best date was! Free bookmarks for everyone.
  •  February 18: AuthorSkypeChat. Talk to a live author (author to be announced).
  •  February 25: Ft. Vancouver Regional Library Invitational Field Trip. Check out the Teen room; get snacks at the café; see Mt. Hood from the balcony! Teens with best attendance (or teen volunteers with most hours) will be invited.
  •  March 4: First Tuesday Family Film Festival. All ages welcome. Movie to be announced.
  •  March 11: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., A2Z Reception and Teen Tech Week Dr. Who Party Late Night; 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Pizza & premiere of all projectable entries in A2Z; 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Dr. Who games, crafts and activities; 7:45 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., enter the TARDIS for a Dr. Who movie!
Wednesdays: 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., MakerPlace. Students can try their hand at programming a computer game, using Makey-Makeys to make a banana piano, play with LEGO ™ and MineCraft software, experiment with Arduino, design a robot, and more! Computer scientist Sam Dodson, and other engineers and artists will be on hand to help!
Saturdays: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., February 1 & 15, March 1 & 15. Geek Dad. James McBride, official Geek Dad, can help the whole family have more fun and become more Geeky. Technology Petting Zoo on March 15!
