Posted Date: 3/13/2017
Longview Police Department is looking for young people ages 16 to 20 interested in becoming volunteers to join its cadet program. “This is an amazing volunteer opportunity for local youth who are interested in a career in law enforcement,” said Cpl. Danielle Jenkins.

The department is in the process of filling vacancies within the cadet program. Applications are available at the main police station at 1351 Hudson St. between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications may also be picked up by appointment at the LPD Highlands Satellite Office at 216 30th Avenue behind the St. Helens Shopping Center between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Tuesday - Thursday. It is recommended that interested applicants call 360-442-5850 first to make sure the satellite office will be open when they plan to drop by to pick up an application.

Cadets are required to complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service each month and attend all scheduled training or monthly meetings. Each month a cadet is eligible to ride with a commissioned police officer.

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria.
Be at least 16 years of age and completed the 8th grade, but have not reached their 21st birthday
Must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA in school or have graduated from an accredited high school or completed and passed a GED with an equivalent GPA
Must pass a pre-employment background investigation and drug screen

Applicants under the age of 18 are required to have parental consent to apply.

Priority will be given to Cowlitz County residents who have never been convicted of any felony or arrested for offenses involving moral turpitude or a pattern of arrests, which indicate moral character of a questionable nature. Application deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, March 31.
