The new construction program performs plan reviews and inspections for new construction development, remodels, and other special events.
Building permits and Fire/Life safety permits are obtained through the Department of Community Development for new construction activities. Permits are obtained for such things as new buildings, fire alarm systems, fire extinguishing systems, and hazardous materials operations.
The building official and fire marshal review construction drawings prior to permit approval, and perform on-site inspections to ensure the new buildings and systems are safe before final occupancy.
The goals of the Fire Prevention Division are to prevent and minimize the negative effects of fires and promote life safety through public education and code administration. This is accomplished through four major programs within the Fire Prevention Division that include: Existing occupancy inspections, new construction plan review and inspections, public education, and fire investigation.
