Construction of Downtown Corridor Improvements Starts
Posted Date: 7/31/2014
Together with Senator Patty Murray, State and County officials, the City of Longview will formally kick-off construction of its Downtown Corridor Improvements project at 10:00am on Thursday, August 14th with a Groundbreaking Ceremony at the Columbia Theatre Plaza, 1231 Vandercook Way. The project will improve three blocks of Commerce Avenue by replacing deteriorated crosswalks, ADA ramps, sidewalks and street lights, and adding irrigation and stormwater raingardens. The City of Longview’s contractor, RC Northwest will sequence construction to minimize impacts, beginning on the east side of Commerce starting at the Broadway intersection and progressing north to Washington Way. Pending unforeseen delays, construction is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

During construction, Commerce Avenue will be converted to a single lane of one-way north-bound traffic. Businesses will remain open with access maintained throughout the construction area. Public parking will remain available downtown. Pedestrians and motorists are encouraged to visit downtown and advised to use alternate routes on 12th Avenue, 14th Avenue and the alleys.
