Longview Celebrates Historic Preservation Month with Photo Contest, additional Library Longview Room Hours
The City of Longview’s Historic Preservation Commission celebrates Historic Preservation Month with two events for 2018.
First, amateur photographers are invited to participate in a photo contest. Take your best photo of an historic place that is at least 50 years old and within the City of Longview, and you might be a winner!
Three divisions are available: Elementary school (K-5), middle/high school (6-12), and adult. There will be one winner and two honorable mentions for each category. Winners’ photos may be used on City website and Facebook page, and displayed in City buildings. Winners will receive their photos mounted on foam core, and a certificate of accomplishment.
Please visit view the Rules & Entry Form
. Entries are accepted until April 22nd, and winners will be announced by May 7th.
Second, the Longview Public Library Longview Room will be open on Saturday, May 12, from 2 to 4 pm in addition to its scheduled Wednesday hours. The Longview Room houses the local history collection of the Longview Public Library, and includes newspaper clippings, maps, pamphlets, books about Washington, clippings about the 1980 Mount St Helens volcanic eruption, local yearbooks, and a large collection of photographs of Longview’s founding. Please drop in to explore the resources available, and meet library staff and Historic Preservation Commission members.
