We’re Making Downtown Beautiful!
On Monday, April 10th, the City of Longview will begin Phase 3 of its Downtown Corridor Improvement project. This time the 1200 block of Commerce will get a facelift with new sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting, street trees, furnishings, and stormwater raingardens. The project was awarded to Advanced Excavating Specialists (AES), a local contractor who also constructed the last phase of work and will use that experience to get a running start. To minimize impacts, AES will sequence construction, starting on the west side of Commerce near the Hudson intersection and working their way south to Hemlock. Weather permitting, AES plans to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Construction is expected to be complete in July.
During construction, the 1200 block of Commerce will be converted to one lane of one way traffic in the south-bound direction only On-street parking will not be allowed in the 1200 block but free 3-hour public parking will be available in the Stylemaster parking lot, and in City parking lots off 12th and 14th Avenues. Businesses will be open during construction and most shops can also be accessed from the alleys.
Confused about how to get where you want to go? Don’t shy away! Anyone who needs help getting to their favorite business can flag down a construction worker and they will help direct you. Some patience will be required but the downtowner business owners appreciate your business and support during construction, and we think you’ll find it worth the effort.
