Emergency Water Main Replacement Project
Posted Date: 11/4/2013
Advanced Excavating Specialists (Longview, WA) has been chosen as the contractor for an emergency water main replacement project. Work will begin on Monday, November 4, 2013 to replace water mains on Beech Street from 14th Avenue to 20th Avenue, and in the alley between 16th Avenue and 17th Avenue from Beech Street to Nichols Blvd. This work is prompted by water quality issues due to deterioration of pipe scale in older water mains in the St. Helens area, and was declared an emergency by the Longview City Council on Thursday, October 24, 2013, to expedite main replacement and water quality improvement. The estimated cost of this contract is $1.65 million.

Construction will start on Beech Street at 14th Avenue and be completed in stages, connecting customer services to the new water mains as soon as possible. Crews will work six days a week and affected customer services are anticipated to be connected to the new mains no later than January 11, 2014. Remaining work, pavement repairs, clean-up and final restoration will be complete in early March, 2014.

Lane closures can be expected on Oregon Way, Beech Street, and Baltimore Street. Installation of pipe across Oregon Way will occur at night to minimize disruption to traffic. Alley access to residences will be limited during the construction work. Access to businesses will be maintained during construction.

To avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.
